Redirect Generator
Generate redirect configurations for Apache (.htaccess), Nginx, Vercel, and Netlify. Support for 301 permanent and 302 temporary redirects.
URL redirects are a critical part of website maintenance and SEO. When you move content to a new URL, redesign your site structure, or migrate to a new domain, proper redirects ensure that users and search engines are seamlessly sent to the right location without encountering broken links or 404 errors.
Our Redirect Generator creates redirect configurations for the most popular web servers and hosting platforms: Apache (.htaccess), Nginx, Vercel (vercel.json), and Netlify (_redirects). Simply enter the old URL, the new URL, and the redirect type, and get platform-specific code you can deploy immediately.
Using the correct redirect type matters for SEO. A 301 permanent redirect passes link equity to the new URL, while a 302 temporary redirect tells search engines to keep indexing the original URL.
How to Use This Tool
- 1
Enter the source URL
Type the old URL path that you want to redirect from.
- 2
Enter the destination URL
Type the new URL path where users and search engines should be sent.
- 3
Choose the redirect type
Select 301 for permanent moves (passes SEO value) or 302 for temporary redirects (preserves original indexing).
- 4
Select your platform
Choose your web server or hosting platform to get the correctly formatted redirect code.
- 5
Copy and deploy
Copy the generated configuration and add it to the appropriate file on your server.
Best Practices
Always use 301 redirects for permanent URL changes. This passes approximately 90-99% of link equity to the new URL.
Avoid redirect chains (A→B→C). Each hop in a chain slightly reduces the link equity passed and slows down user experience.
After a site migration, set up redirects for every old URL and monitor 404 errors in Google Search Console for any you missed.
Don't redirect all old pages to the homepage. Each old page should redirect to the most relevant corresponding page on the new site.
Remove outdated redirects periodically. Old redirect rules that are no longer needed can slow down server response times.
SEO Tips
- Use 301 redirects for permanent URL changes to pass link equity.
- Use 302 redirects only for temporary moves like A/B testing.
- Avoid redirect chains — point directly to the final destination.
- Update internal links to point to new URLs instead of relying on redirects.
